Srinath spent most of his career on the periphery of the security industry. His more than 20 years of experience leading large organizations and spearheading the development of some game-changing technological components began by leveraging his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California and becoming the VP of Product Development at VSK Photonics in the early 2000s.
The bulk of his career has been in the photonics space, in roles such as Senior Director and the Head of R&D at Intel’s Silicon Photonic Products Division, where he led the development of the first two silicon photonic products from concept to commercial release to deployment in large data centers around the world.
Over the last decade, Srinath noticed that the security industry has been rather slow-moving in terms of business models, how security is sold, and the cadence of technological change. In his eyes, times are finally starting to change as we see the adoption of more innovative, forward-thinking technologies that are accelerating security operations for so many companies that are embracing what’s clear: digital transformation is the future.
Working in photonics, Srinath has always been interested in cameras. The evolution of camera technology applied in smart video surveillance is something he’s always monitored—something that eventually fueled his decision to enter the market as an entrepreneur. By leveraging his expertise in silicon photonics research and development, he’s become well-versed in the ways that cameras are becoming more sophisticated through artificial intelligence (AI) and how to develop technology for organizations that provide intelligence for enhanced awareness.
Apart from leading Oyla as CEO, Srinath loves to play tennis once a week and go hiking. He also loves to just read a great book, such as Hilary Mantel’s historical fiction trilogy about King Henry VIII’s powerful chief minister Thomas Cromwell: Wolf Hall, Bring up the Bodies, and The Mirror and the Light. He enjoys listening to a few thought-provoking podcasts, like Lex Fridman’s show on AI, science, technology, history, philosophy, and the nature of intelligence. Oh, and let’s not forget about one way he winds down and spends some quality time with the kids: watching The Mandalorian.
